A small group of year 3 and 2 students had the honor of going on a 14 day Thailand trip, inclusive of a 2 day exchange with Chulalongkorn University. There, we were paired up and had only 2 short days to prototype a 'craft x object' there.

Prim, my partner, and I wanted to embark on the theme of fulfillment, bonds etc. and through some research, we felt that a piece of jewelry is the direction we want to head towards. We looked into traditional Thai weaving, which I have learnt during that 14 day trip, and we experimented how we might make this weaving action mean something to the wearer(s).
When we parted ways, and I retuned back to SG, we each developed on our own versions of the prototype, in preparation for an exhibition in our school when they come over to SG.

My main inspiration was from Thai weaving. I felt that this technique will really add feminity and complexity to the product. I made it a set of 1 choker necklace and 1 ring.

I picked acrylic as a base, and golden thread to give it an aesthetic contrast. After weaving and threading the thread all the way through both the ring and the necklace, I used heat to bend the acrylic so that its form will fit the body better.

The finished product was displayed in our own pedestals and displays. I used a box with black cloth over it, and simple papers to create a cone for the ring to be displayed, and a hump so the necklace is propped forward.

It was on display for a few months inside Singapore Polytechnic Design School.
